Macarne Supercharges GrapheneOS with 25Gbps EU Server to End Bandwidth Bottlenecks

GrapheneOS replaced its outdated European infrastructure with a high-performance 25Gbps server sponsored by Macarne. This move directly addresses overloaded bandwidth during major Android updates and positions the project for aggressive user growth.

Macarne Supercharges GrapheneOS with 25Gbps EU Server to End Bandwidth Bottlenecks

GrapheneOS, the security-first mobile OS project, just retired its patchwork of overloaded 2Gbps OVH VPS instances across Europe. In their place stands a sponsored 25Gbps beast from Macarne, featuring a Ryzen 9950X, 128GB RAM, and dual 2TB NVMe drives. It’s not just a spec flex—it’s a necessary response to escalating user demand, larger update payloads, and critical release timelines.

Until now, GrapheneOS relied on 8x 2Gbps VPS units—four in Quebec, two in France, and two in Germany—to handle over 250,000 users. These units were already straining under the weight of four major Android OS updates per year. European traffic alone was 50 to 60 percent heavier than other regions. The largest release yet, Android 16, is imminent. Without intervention, the system would’ve failed to scale.

Macarne’s infrastructure eliminates the choke point. With 25Gbps of bandwidth, the new EU server can comfortably absorb peak loads during high-pressure release cycles. That translates into rapid rollouts, minimal downtime, and secure patch delivery without throttling. In real terms: faster protection for a growing user base, with no surveillance analytics or telemetry.

GrapheneOS also confirmed they’re distributing global load using GeoDNS and round-robin DNS. This architecture includes automatic failover and is built to scale. They’re currently seeking a similar deal in North America—ideally 2x 10Gbps or even 2x 25Gbps servers for the east and west coasts. But the critical bottleneck in Europe has been solved, thanks to Macarne.

Macarne isn't just offering bandwidth—they’re backing a project that actively resists state surveillance, closed-source code, and centralized control. This is infrastructure with purpose. And in an ecosystem where privacy and security are actively sabotaged by state-corporate partnerships, that’s a hard win.
